At World Robot Olympiad it is our mission to give as many young people all the opportunity to develop their creativity and problem solving skills in a fun and engaging way.
We do this by organizing robotics competitions. Each season we have a new theme and we have challenges that are tailored to the age of the participants.
On this website you will find a lot of general information about our competition. You can find the most important links on this page.
This year the WRO theme is PowerBots - The Future of Energy.
In 2021, your team will be looking at the challenges that come with using more energy from renewable sources. Teams in the Regular Category will build and program robots that modernize the energy use of a house, assist with charging cars in a parking garage and help manage the energy mix on the grid.
Teams in Open Category will develop robots that will allow us use renewable sources of energy in the most efficient way.
The WRO 2021 International Final will take place online.
Normally we travel to one of our member countries with hundreds of teams. But because of the Covid pandemic we expect that this will still be very difficult in 2021. That is why we have decided to organize an official online event that will take place from 18 to 21 November.
World Robot Olympiad is organized in over 85 countries all over the world. Our WRO National Organizers make sure that around 80,000 children and young people world wide can participate in our robotics competitions. Without them, there would be no WRO.
If you are interested in participating in WRO you can check if your country is already participating.
At WRO we have four different categories.
We have two pure robotics challenges: Regular Category and our new Future Engineers challenge. Teams in Regular Category build and program a LEGO® robot that needs to solve tasks on a playfield. Future Engineers teams build and program a self-driving car that uses camera vision to avoid obstacles.
Our Open Category is a completely different challenge, where teams have to do research and design a robot model that can solve a problem related to the theme of the season.
And then there is our WRO Football challenge, a competition with lots of excitement, just like in a real live sports match.
WRO is proud to be supported by leading technological companies and organizations that share our mission of bringing robotics to as many young people as possible.
We would not be able to organize World Robot Olympiad without our partners, who support us in numerous ways.
