Singapore, renowned as a global hub for innovation and technology, will be hosting the prestigious World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Finals in 2025 (WRO 2025). This marks a significant milestone for the vibrant city-state, celebrating over two decades since it first hosted the WRO International Finals and now reclaiming its role on the world stage.
Mr Yap Chin Siang, Deputy Chief Executive at the Singapore Tourism Board, emphasized the significance of Singapore as a leading innovation and technology hub. He stated, “We are delighted to welcome the WRO International Finals back to our shores. Selecting Singapore as the host destination reaffirms our position as the preferred destination for MICE events and as a platform for emerging leaders to exchange ideas. We look forward to supporting the WRO Association and Space Faculty in spotlighting robotics and technological innovation on the world stage.”
WRO 2025 is a testament to Singapore’s unwavering commitment to promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and fostering the growth of robotics and technology innovation on a global scale. Spearheading this initiative is Space Faculty, a pioneer in unlocking opportunities for young talents within the space economy.
Ms Lynette Tan, Chairwoman and CEO of Space Faculty, National Organizer of WRO in Singapore, expressed her excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to host WRO 2025. This represents a significant milestone in our journey to promote STEM education and innovation in Singapore. We believe that our vibrant and dynamic city is the perfect setting to celebrate the spirit of creativity, teamwork, and technological excellence that WRO embodies.”
WRO 2025 is not merely a competition; it is a global congregation of over 3,000 roboticists from diverse backgrounds, showcasing their expertise, collaborating on ideas, and fostering international friendships. WRO has grown into the largest truly global robotics community, and returning to Singapore after two decades is a nod to the nation’s exceptional track record of hosting world-class events.
Claus Ditlev Christensen, Secretary General of World Robot Olympiad Association, remarks, “We are excited to witness our main event returning to Singapore. It is heartening to see our partners in Singapore garnering support from across Singaporean society to champion WRO’s mission of inspiring young people to engage with STEM. The dedicated WRO community in Singapore is impressive, and we anticipate an event that will be remarkable in every way.”
Approximately 500 teams from around 100 countries will converge on Singapore in November 2025 – and these youth robotics champions, having triumphed in their respective nations, will carry their flags proudly, competing for the coveted title of WRO 2025 champions.
Space Faculty envisions the event as a pivotal moment for facilitating global knowledge exchange to advance STEM 2.0 education through international competition. STEM 2.0 emphasizes foundational principles while fostering 21st-century skills such as creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration.
