WHAT IS WORLD ROBOT OLYMPIAD?

World Robot Olympiad™ (WRO®) is a global robotics competition focused on creativity, engineering, and problem-solving skills.

WRO is platform-agnostic.
This means schools and teams can choose the robots and technology that fit them best.

Why choose WRO?

Many schools want to invest in robotics kits that can be used over several seasons.

WRO offers:

  • Freedom to choose your hardware
  • The ability to reuse what you already own
  • A competition structure that works across countries and suppliers

WRO compared to other robotics competitions

Some robotics competitions are built around specific hardware or robotics kits.

WRO is designed differently.

At WRO:

  • There is no required robotics kit
  • Teams can reuse existing robots across seasons
  • Schools can source hardware locally, based on availability and budget
  • Rules define requirements, not brands
  • Teams are evaluated on how they solve the task, not which robot they use

ALL ROBOTS ARE WELCOME

What this means in practice:

  • You can use robots from different brands
  • You can mix kits, sensors, and custom parts
  • You can use 3D printed elements or locally available materials

Any robot is welcome as long as it follows the rules of the chosen category
(size, weight, sensors, battery power).

Existing robots still have a future

Already invested in robotics kits?

Good news:

  • You can continue using your existing robots in WRO
  • Discontinued robotics kits, such as LEGO sets, are also allowed
  • No mandatory upgrades
  • No required brands

WRO is designed to allow schools to participate with existing hardware.

CATEGORIES FOR EVERY SKILL LEVEL

From beginners to advanced teams, there is a place for everyone.

NEW TO ROBOTICS?

Through RoboStarter, WRO offers fun and flexible, entry-level robotics activities.

They help beginners build confidence and core skills before moving on to WRO competitions.
What is available depends on the country.
