Season launch: What you can expect from WRO2021

|

Find out all you need to know about the new season.

Since we don't know when all schools are open and teams from our 80+ member countries can travel, we decided to have this year's International Final online – and hosted by WRO Association. Germany, the original host country of the year, will instead host in 2022.

"We wanted to make sure that teams can represent their countries in 2021, no matter what the Covid-19 situation is," says Claus Ditlev Christensen, World Robot Olympiad's Secretary General.

The main objective now is to prepare an event that is engaging and fun for all participants, parents, and of course all other guests interested in WRO and robotics. The final will be accessible through an event website and will feature both the competitions, side activities and presentations.

More time for regional events

For the national organizers of WRO, the change from physical to online final means more time to plan the WRO 2021 season in a way that fits the situation in their country. And they can have as many local tournaments as they want. These local level tournaments are important, as this is where most girls and boys discover and hone their robot building abilities.
If local authorities allow it, national organizers can also invite teams from neighbouring countries to keep up WRO's tradition of making friends across borders.

The online edition of our International Final will be a bit different from what happens at an ordinary international final: National organizers will help inform teams and coaches what is expected of them, and take part in ensuring a fair competition. If possible, depending on the situation in each country, the aim is to have teams meet up during the event. This way local judges can help out and a stable internet connection can be provided.

All teams that qualify in their national competition will receive information and details on how to participate. More details will follow later in the year.
