The theme of the WRO 2022 season is My Robot, My Friend
World Robot Olympiad (WRO) is an international robotics competition that aims to get children and young people aged 8-19 excited about STEM subjects. In 2022, teams from more than 85 countries will participate in local and national events and seek to qualify for the WRO International Final that takes place in 17-19 November in Dortmund, Germany.
The theme for the games this year is “My Robot, My Friend” and evolves around the topic of robots as part of our everyday life.
“This season’s theme is exciting and socially relevant. A lot of research and development is going in Germany on around this, but as a country we are not pioneers in the use of robots in everyday life. A competition topic like this will therefore contribute to the important discussion about the role of robots in our everyday life,” says Markus Fleige, Chairman of TECHNIK BEGEISTERT e.V., our hosts of WRO 2022.
The WRO International Final has been taking place since 2004. It is the third time the final is organized in Europe with Sochi, Russia and Győr, Hungary hosting the final in 2014 and 2019.
“We are excited to bring our international community to Dortmund, Germany – our first live international final in three years. The pandemic was the reason we needed to cancel the WRO 2020 in Montreal, Canada – and in 2021 we opted for an online competition. We can’t wait to see everyone again,” says Claus Ditlev Christensen, World Robot Olympiad’s Secretary General.
